General Skill Migration - Most popular immigration program
Australia is an incredibly popular destination for skilled migrants. The Australian General Skilled Migration (GSM) program is a pathway for skilled workers to emigrate to Australia, and SkillSelect is the current tool that controls GSM eligibility criteria and the visa application process.
Under the Skillselect program skilled worker applicants can gain a permanent Australia visa; using their qualifications, work experience and language ability to meet the Australian immigration requirements.
The main focus of SkillSelect is to make it easier to obtain employer sponsorship, as the system intends to provide a clearer route for potential migrants to link up with Australian employers.
The system has 5 visa subclasses, and is points based; applicants must meet at least 60 points from the General Skilled Migration (Skillselect) points tables to be considered.
What is SkillSelect?
Anyone applying to emigrate to Australia based on their experience as a skilled worker is required to apply through SkillSelect. SkillSelect is the Australian government's new online system which allows skilled workers interested in moving to Australia to be considered for a skilled Australian visa.
In order to begin the application process, skilled workers will need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect. Read below to understand what is EOI. Also find information on basic requirements and eligibility for General Skilled Migration program.
What is EOI - Expression of Interest?
An EOI is merely an indication that you would like to apply for an Australian visa and is not a visa application in itself. However, you will still need to include a range of information including:
- Personal information;
- Desired/nominated profession;
- Work experience;
- English language proficiency
- A Skills Assessment relevant to your nominated profession; AND
- Business and investment experience (if applicable)
By registering an EOI on SkillSelect, skilled workers can be found and nominated for an Australian visa by employers as well as state and territory governments. Once selected, you will then be invited to apply for an Australian visa.
After you have completed your EOI, you will be given a points score and ranked by an automatic and objective process. If eligible, you will then be invited to apply for an Australian skilled independent visa. You may also be invited to apply for a visa if sponsored by a state or territory government or an Australian employer, if you have indicated you would like to pursue these options.
Basic Requirements for General Skill Migration
As mentioned, General Skill Migraion is a point based program and you need minimum 60points to qualify.
